DIY or Call Us?

You can do the diagnosis yourself. Get a ladder, get up to eye level with the chimney, and look for cracks, flaking mortar, or a crown that’s pulling away from the brick. Take pictures with your phone. If the crown has a crack you can slip a putty knife into, it’s time to call. That’s the part you can safely check.

What you should not do is patch the crown with roofing tar or a tube of silicone from Home Depot.
